Why This Set Matters
Marvel UK Characters
Excalibur was Marvel's UK-set superhero team. This is the first dedicated Excalibur card set.
Gatecrasher's Card Debut
Gatecrasher appears in this set at cards #4 and #8, making this one of her earliest card appearances.
Widget and Saturnyne
Widget (card #5) and Saturnyne (card #37) also receive early card appearances — essential for collectors of British Marvel characters.
Deep Dive
The 1989 Comic Images Excalibur set represents a remarkable dedication to what was, at the time, a relatively new Marvel title. Excalibur had only launched in 1988, making these 1989 cards some of the earliest comprehensive Excalibur collectibles produced.
For collectors of British Marvel characters, this set is essential: it provides early vintage card appearances for many UK-created characters.
